Dyssomniac’s Defence

00:02:12 a.m.
Stare up at the
Pale expanse, this featureless horizon of
My personal desert.

01:07:25 a.m.
Explore the edges of
Darkness: light not completely absent
Weighed more on the mind than
Blackness, found behind closed eyelids.

6:00:00 a.m.
At the shoreline of thoughts and dreams
The tide flows both ways
Until the morning.

The body’s reproach:
“No rest in meditation.”
So the night’s luxuries are mutually exclusive;
But I say,
“We don’t always have a choice.”
