Altogether A Good Thing

My pink IC was restored to my ownership today and I’m happy to say it didn’t change my life because I’ve been living it.

I thank my friends for the love; I thank former recruits for the privilege; I thank God for them both, for His provision of grace, and for the faith to have seen it through and to move on. Although I am a different person than I was twenty-two months ago, this development is altogether a good thing. The important things are love and faith, and they stay the same; there is love, there is faith.

(Hope I ever have, for the best is yet to be.)

hello sgt derek! i’m slightly more than a month away from my commissioning, and i thought i’d drop you a note to let you know that one of my greatest takeaways from BMT was the faint stirring of a change in mindset that allowed me to react to my admission to OCS with less pessimism than i would previously have, and that sowed the seed for the actual change in mindset i’ve experienced over the past 9 months.

your advice was one of the seeds sown – it helped me decide to get my butt moving and begin contributing and the results have really been surprising. i am now able to respect myself for my attitude and my abilities which set me apart from the rest, and all that wouldn’t have been possible if i had stuck to my minimum effort, maximal output mentality.

    thanks :)

Congratulations! With that attitude, I’m sure the next stage of your service will be a good experience for you as well! On my end, seeing the occasional meditation on scripture or reflection from you in my inbox has been encouraging, and I think we can both say, ‘Thank God.’ Keep the faith for the next stage!
